Why are we the best

At the Slovenian Alpine Museum, we showcase the development of Slovenian mountaineering, hiking, alpinism, and mountain rescue history, intertwined with environmental and educational content. Our rich collection of artifacts, a diverse range of photographic, film, book, and archival materials, as well as an extensive professional library, offers visitors an insight into the scale and significance of mountaineering activities in Slovenia.

Mission and Vision of the Slovenian Alpine Museum

The Slovenian Alpine Museum preserves Slovenian mountaineering heritage, environmental content about our mountains, and documents, studies, and promotes the mountaineering legacy of Slovenes both at home and abroad.
We have thus accompanied the mission of the Slovenian Alpine Museum with the slogan: “A connection for the summits of the future.”

We realize this mission through events and lectures, temporary exhibitions, presentations, educational workshops, and by showcasing current domestic and international mountaineering achievements.
The Slovenian Alpine Museum is becoming an information center where visitors can find information about exhibitions and accompanying museum events, as well as hiking, mountaineering, and other tourist programs in the surrounding area. We strive for visitors to leave full of positive impressions, created through interactive encounters with the past and natural and cultural heritage.

Goals of the Slovenian Alpine Museum:

  • Ensure systematic processing and study of the cultural heritage of Slovenian mountaineering, hiking, and alpinism, preserve, document, promote, and collect this heritage, provide its accessibility in one place, and thus become a recognizable, central, national Slovenian alpine museum;
  • Become a recognizable space for meetings, education, and entertainment, offering new opportunities for the broader community to develop tourism in Mojstrana, thereby complementing the tourist offer of the municipality of Kranjska Gora, the Upper Carniola region, and the broader Slovenian area;
  • By establishing information points of the Triglav National Park and the Alpine Convention within the Slovenian Alpine Museum, contribute to raising awareness about the protection of natural values, cultural heritage, and sustainable development of the Alpine area;
  • In cooperation with the Mountaineering Association of Slovenia, expand the mission through the checkpoints of the Slovenian Mountain Trail and the Slovenian Mountain Biking Trail.
  • As the official office of the Association of Mountain Guides of Slovenia, we collaborate in hiring mountain guides and providing proper information to guests about safe visits to the mountains in both summer and winter.
